Jeanie and Dick McNear of Gid Brown Hollow have hosted six foreign exchange students in the last ten years.
Mrs. McNear has recently taken over the duties of being the Youth for Understanding (YFU) volunteer area representative for Rappahannock County.
The former YFU representatives, Dick and Pat Helmer of Castleton, have moved to Florida. “I did not want to see the program fall apart. No one else volunteered to pick it up,” said Mrs. McNear.
The Helmers had represented YFU for several counties, but Mrs. McNear is in charge of Rappahannock County only. “I know the people in Rappahannock County and what it is like to live here. I think that the foreign students have been received particularly well at RCHS because it is a smaller school,” said Mrs. McNear.
