iom that “the end justifies the means.”

Politics in Little Washington has always been difficult. This past two months we saw politics at its worst! The losses to the residents of Washington are probably not going to be felt for a period of time because the changes will be subtle. However, the erosion of the positive social growth in the Town will be very real and sad.

As someone who has always cared deeply for the Town of Washington, I sincerely want those who “won” by not being truthful with the voters to somehow, suddenly become honest and truly honorable at the July, 1994, Town meeting. I am aware that this is not the usual change process of human nature, so I have little hope that this will occur.

Nothing in this election process has reflected positively on the Town of Washington specifically, or Rappahannock County in general. The “new” Town Council has a great deal of work to do, rebuilding the ethical reputation they have so efficiently torn down during the campaign. This is a waste of energy and time that would not have been necessary had the campaign been conducted honestly, fairly, and without malice.
