Kathleen McClelland, certified nurse midwife, will join Dr. Matt; Werner's practice in May.

ington, D.C.

“Nurse midwife care is an option for women who want to spend more time with their health care provider during annual GYN and prenatal visits and who want to involve their families during pregnancy and childbirth,” explains McClelland.

“Nurse midwives educate women about their options during labor and birth in order to empower them to decide how they want their birth to be. Some women who choose a midwife prefer to have natural childbirth; however, conventional pain control is also available. A midwife has numerous ways to suggest to women to help them cope with labor pain.”

McClelland and her husband Dan Nellis live in Midland, Virginia. Nellis is assistant director for Hemlock Overlook Center for Outdoor Education in Clifton. McClelland and Nellis enjoy backpacking, canoeing, bicycling, and woodworking.
