I am dismayed by the overt mud slinging and prevarication that hopefully came to a conclusion with the May 3rd elections in the Town of Washington.
As a past resident and voter in Washington, I was always painfully aware that my thoughts, feelings, and concerns were not considered as important as those of the residents whose grandfathers (or their spouses’ grandfathers) were bom in Rappahannock. The recent election process is evidence that they continue to believe that they are “better” than others simply because they have chosen to live in the community where they were bom.
For those of you who were elected by allowing your friends to csyole and badger the voters while peddling very personal and false information about your opponents—I wish to congratulate you on your “victory.” AlS a lifelong Virginian with fairly high ethical standards, I have never believed that winning through deceit could truly be considered “winning.” Perhaps, you, the victors, view this process differently; it certainly appears that some of the candidates believe the old ax
