Later, with two Rappahannock runners on bases and the score tied, Paul Brown hit a double that scored Luke Zindel from second and ended the game.
Coach Howard said the main difference in the way the team is playing now and the beginning of the season is that they “are able to regroup after an error...Before the whole team would get down. They’ve learned every play is a different play.”
Friday, long before the baseball team managed its seventh inning rally, the girls’ softball team had defeated Clarke County 15 to 0 in a game shortened to five innings under the “slaughter” rule.
Pitcher Leah Marlett allowed only two hits while striking out five batters. Coach Renee Leake said, “Laura McNear, Bonnie Jewell, Janet Hitt, Cari Kerr and Shamita Fletcher all had exciting plays on defense.” Marsha Freeman and Cari Kerr each had two hits, and Bonnie Jewell went three for four in hits.
However, the team lost the game last Tuesday against Manassas Park.
