There will be areas where anyone can fly a kite and separate areas reserved for the competitors. There will be demonstrations of kitemaking and the Rokkaku Challenge (Japanese Kite Fighting).
There are also special games planned that mimic the fox hunt and point-to-points with kites.
Through working on this event with the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, I have had close contact with some wonderful and talented people such as Bevan and Margo Brown. Col. and Mrs. Brown have served as past presidents of the American Kite Flyers Association and have been very instrumental in helping lay the ground work for the festival.
