Next Monday June 6 the Rappahannock public library will officially begin using its automated circulation system.
Patrons will need library cards which will have a barcode on them to identify the borrower. The library has new cards ready for most patrons now. The staff will be able to quickly produce ones for those who have not yet filled out the form for the new cards or for new patrons.
Present and former Rappahannock County High School students should be quite comfortable with this system. High school librarian Beth Scott has had an automated circulation system in place for years. The elementary school library is in the process of converting and should be automated by the coming school year.
A bar code reader will be used to read in the bar codes of the books and other materials checked out and the card of the patron borrowing the books. A computer at the circulation desk will then keep track of who has what book or tape.
