Local Republican officials expect Oliver North to win the party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate at the convention this Saturday.
Rappahannock Republican Party Chairman Ron Frazier said he is expecting 56 or 57 of the county’s 59 delegates to attend the convention. The county’s 12 votes will be divided evenly among the delegates who actually attend, he said.
Mr. Frazier said he believes Rappahannock’s delegation is about evenly split between supporters of Oliver North and Jim Miller, but Col. North will have the largest block of supporters at the convention.
All the delegates are going “uninstructed. ” They are free to vote for whomever they want, however, Mr. Frazier believes when they see the extent of Col. North’s support, most will support him. “The conventioh usually sways some people who are luke warm,” he said. “I don’t think Jim Miller has got the support he needs.”
