A convention campaign is different from a general election campaign. In conventions the candidates get people to sign up as delegates and lean on them to turn out for the convention. In other words, whoever gets the most delegates to Richmond will win.
“North has a lot of enthusiastic support,” said Sen. Kevin Miller (R-26th), who’s remaining uncommitted. “North certainly appears to be the frontrunner and is favored to win.”
North has won the support of most unit chairmen and the party’s active rank-and-file.
North and Miller have tailored a similar message in the pursuit of delegate support: lower taxes, less government and less welfare, mixed with a pro-life, pro-family agenda.
Interestingly, North on some issues, is l more moderate than Miller. Unlike Miller, he supports some minor gun control and abortions in the cases of rape or incest.
