Using her large kiln, it takes two days for the pieces to cool down so that she can apply a clear glaze and then refire them. “I learn from my mistakes; those go out as Christmas presents. I grow and develop different ideas in the process,” she said.

Her studio’s walls are covered with posters of fish, insects, and wildflowers, which are the main subjects she paints besides animals. Her designs are charming and appealing. Dozens of jars of glaze fill the tabletops. (
