At Thursday’s Library Board meeting Mrs. Lynch said that the library staff is next looking at how the Internet will become part of library services.
On Tuesday June 7 there will be a teleconference at eight sites around the state with Dr. Clifford Lynch, director of the division of library automation at the University of California, Dr. Beverly Sgro, Virginia’s Secretary of Education, Patricia Berger, Chairman of the State Library Board and a panel of distinguished librarians from across Virginia. Dr. Lynch has been ad- , vising the state Library Board on national networking trends. Besides the eight sites around the state for this teleconference, Mrs. Lynch said, high school librarian Beth Scott will also have the program at the high school library from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
The local library board looked at projections for the budget for the rest of the year. Treasurer Helen Platt said it would be necessary to hold the line on spending to keep from running over budget. Some hinds earmarked for books will not be spent. Office supplies have gone over the budgeted amount, but many of those costs are related to the purchase of books, she said.
The board decided to take no action now on the driveway but to consider the paper member Frank Warner prepared that recommends hard-surfacing the driveway and parking areas at the June meeting.
