Why Rush It?
Last week, the Walt Disney Co. submitted its final rezoning application, complete with amended proffers based on lengthy negotiations with Prince William County’s staff representatives.
The application was filed May 23, three days after the May 20 deadline. That date was set some time ago after Disney apparently realized it could not meet the original midApril deadline for submission of the final rezoning plan.
County officials agreed with Disney’s lastest request for an extension. The company cited the complex nature of the document, and the volume of information requested, as the reason for the delay.
Despite the size of the submission and its tardiness, Prince William County apparently still plans to hold its agencies to the original time line. Agencies were requested to review the document and return all comments to the planning office by May 31.s i.
If no response is received, according to a May 6 memo from planning chief Sherman Patrick, “We will assume that you have no comments and that your previous comments have been addressed.”
