Four busloads of fifth and sixth graders from Rappahannock County Elementary School spent a day at the DARE Show ’94, A Salute to Kids and Vets last Wednesday.
About 140 students, plus chaperones, parents and members of the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department, were part of the estimated 6,000 people attending the show.
Students were invited from DARE programs throughout Northern Virginia. The show was sponsored by the Prince William County Police Department and the Northern Virginia DARE Officers’ Assocation.
When they arrived at Manassas Airport about 10:30 a.m., the children were greeted by several flyovers, including four F-14 Tomcats in formation, a C-130 Hercules transport, and two F-15’s.
Stunt pilot Dr. Miles Merritt, flying a Soviet-built Sukhoi 29, seemed to have boundless energy as he completed stalls, loops, and rollovers, over and over again.
