work was training local people without sending them into the cities. One of his local leaders was “Brother Ongy, a fanner with a third-grade education. He came to our clinics, brought some of his young people, and they started six churches,” Mr. Waldron reported.
Natural disasters, so common to the Phillippines, offer special opportunities, he said. An area that had been closed to the Baptist missionaries experienced a fire, “that almost wiped out the whole area," he said. “My wife got into the truck, drove two and a half hours to visit the site, surveyed the situation” and arranged to have canned milk and dried fish brought in, he said. “They saw the compassion the Baptists had before the Red Cross or their government got there,” and after that the area was welcoming to the Baptist missionaries. “You take advantage of those opportunities when you see them, but that’s not why you’re there,” he said.
Linda Boswell has been in Peru since 1969. Her husband is a missionary there also. Their mission was to try to establish a model Baptist Church in Lima. They started with eight people. The church now has 46 members. Her husband is a weight lifter. He set up a gym that attracted young people. Seventy percent of Peru’s population is young, she explained.

Fairy Tales
Fauquier Community Theatre will present a high-spirited, colorful production of Steven Sondheim’s adaptation of fairy tales, “Into the Woods.”
This thought-provbking comedy is filled with wonderful songs which parody familiar childhood fairy tales.
The cast includes some of FCTs favorite veterans as well as some wonderfully talented actors from the Fredericksburg community.
Show dates are October 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29. Seating is limited. Tickets are available at the New Leaf Bookstore and BJ’s Books in Warrenton.
