Don’t be misled by promises to correct imperfections that do exist in our health care. As George Bernard Shaw wrote, “Hell is paved with good intentions, not with bad ones.” Do not accept a cure whose results will be worse than the disease.
The Canadian and Clinton systems fit that description.

Disappoints
To the Editor:
■Having had all the benefits of socialized medicine for more than fifty years as an American military wife, with the latter eleven of these years as a Medicare recipient as well, it saddens me that our Congress, this final Week of this session, didn’t even vote on any health care reform bill.
Remembering that Congress has my same benefits and remembering that ours is the only industrialized nation without national health care for every citizen, it is shameful really that all of you “other” Americans cannot have our virtually free medical care.
I will send to our own congressional delegation copies of Lee Bird’s superb article in the Sept. 21 Rappahannock. News “Canadian System Supported,” with hope that it will be not only read but pondered and absorbed, to be remebered if, in the next session, Congress tries again.

We would like to publicly thank the person or organization that planted the beautiful wild flowers in the median on U.S. 211 just west of the Amissville Fire House. We enjoy their wild beauty everytime we travel on 211 to or from our county road 643.
