American items available are an Early American bed; four piece bedroom set with inlaid decorations, including butterflies; and some antique quilts.
Mrs. Fannon’s father was Dutch, hence her name, and he later became an American citizen and diplomat. The family spent five years in Europe; three of those in Vienna. This is where she learned so much about art and antiques. Since those days, she has been collecting all sorts of antiques and furniture, though her specialties are the netsuke and miniature teapots.
She also does appraisals and estate sales. The antiques in her shop are from both estate sales and her own collection. She said, ‘This is the only answer to a compulsive buyer.”
Antiquites de la Duchesse is Open Friday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mrs. Fannon expects the shop to be closed during January and February, at which time it will be open by appointment only.
