Work began this week on strengthening the roadway edges on U.S. 17 between Opal and U.S. 28. Similar work on U.S. 15-29 from Opal to the Prince William line should follow soon, VDOT announced.
Motorists/ should watch for a moving highway work zone in which Superior Paving Co. personal are trenching and paving to strengthen the roadway edge.
The Centreville firm under its $831,723 contract with VDOT has until Dec. 1 to complete the projects, according to Bob Moore, Warrenton resident engineer. I
When work is completed along the sections of Route 17 south of Opal, crews will move north to begin operations along sections of Route 17 between its intersection with Route 709 south of Marshall to the Warrenton town limits.
All of the work will occur on fourlane highways which will permit maintaining one lane of traffic around the work zones at all times, said Moore. None of the work zones will be more than two miles long.
Moore advises using extreme caution when approaching and passing through the work zone.
Equipment and personnel will be working very close to the traffic lane and even a brief distraction or a mile of excess speed could cause an accident.
