The Library Board agreed to an October 12 cutoff for applications for the librarian’s position with ads in the Washington Post last weekend and in the Rappahannock News this week and next.
The position will also be advertised in the Northern Virginia Daily and at the University of Maryland and Catholic University, the two closest universities that offer masters degrees in library science.
The board hopes to appoint a new librarian by November 1 and have the new librarian work with current librarian Nicki Lynch for two weeks. However, Mrs. Lynch has agreed to stay through the end of November if that is necessary.
The board also agreed to pay so Mrs. Lynch can attend the Virginia Library Association meeting in Williamsburg in late October.
When Mrs. Lynch announced her resignation Chairman William Young was out of town. She reached him by telephone and the personnel committee met to work on arrangements to bring to last Thrusday’s meeting. There was general agreement that the system had worked as well as it could, but some concern about future resignations. The board approved a motion made by member John McCarthy that in the future all resignations would be referred to the personnel committee for a report to the board.
