Members of the Rappahannock County Garden Club experienced an agreeable change of pace at their September meeting when the program focused on birds rather than plants.
“Where Have All The Bluebirds Gone?” was the topic of an illustrated talk presented by Ms. Barbara Stinson of Warrenton. Ms. Stinson is an enthusiastic lover of Bluebirds who worked with school children and other groups to get them involved in increasing the Bluebrid population by putting up nesting boxes. Her talk followed the life cycle of Bluebirds with slides, many of which she had taken. She pointed out that Bluebirds are permanent residents of this area and since they are not seed eaters they j can be attracted by fruit such as raisins or pieces of apple put out for them in the wintertime. She stressed that the primary reason for the decrease in the suitable boxes is the real solution.
At the business meeting which followed, President Helen Brown urged club members to sign up for the October meeting. This will be a luncheon at Airlie in Warrenton with
