and unsolicited advice Jrom James’s grandparents—four lifelong schoolteachers. As a group, the grandparents have covered the spectrum of conventional education, having worked at one time or another in a Christian school, military school, boarding school and public schools. Two of them have been principals or headmasters; three have master’s degrees.
I talked at length with dozens of parents and about 10 teachers. 1 read six books on education in full and sections from many others. And I gradually came to realize: The school matters less than the teacher in any given year. And the home matters most of all.
