The Water and Sewer Authority voted 3 to 1 earlier this month to draft an amendment to their ordinance allowing the authority to charge for reserved sewer rights.
Once the members have approved the language in the amendment, it will be advertised for public hearing.
Eugene Leggett, Charles K. “Pete” Estes and Richard Smith voted for the motion to draft such an amendment. Carson Johnson voted against'it. F.D. Coffey was absent from the meeting.
The authority members have been tabling a decision on this matter since fall because Mr. Johnson said there were policies and resolutions in minutes from previous meetings that he had covering the issue.
The record of minutes at the clerk’s office is incomplete. Mr. Johnson brought a stack of minutes to the meeting and said he would let Mr. Smith make copies of them for the clerk's office.
Mr. Johnson said the WSA had previously agreed not to charge anyone until they actually hook up to the system. He also had copies of the : user’s agreement a property owner signs when he hooks up.
