3. Be flexible. A school that may work for one child in the family may not be right for another. Don’t be surprised it the situation changes as the child develops, requiring a different solution. If a school is weak in a particular subject, supplement the school with home study.
4. Don’t overlook the possibility of homeschooling. As the Colfax family in California has demonstrated over the last 20 years, homeschooled kids can succeed by any standards. All four of their sons attended Harvard after being totally homeschooled.
I admit, though, that I'm hesitant to homeschool right now. After years home with young children, I crave time to do other things. Besides, James seems more motivated when he’s among other children.
