To the Editor:

At our April School Board meeting, a resolution asking Gov. Allen to apply for funding from the federal “goals 2000” program was on the agenda and presented by Dr. Gangel. The vote was unanimous in favor of the resolution.

Having read a condensed version of the program plus numerous articles in a variety of magazines and newspapers, I had found nothing that would be detrimental to our school system and therefore supported the resolution.

Since that meeting it has been brought to my attention by supervisor Ron Frazier that a few residents of Jackson District oppose the program. Mr. Frazier expressed a strong, but non-specific objection.

At no time prior to the meeting or in the past two weeks has any resident, other than Mr. Frazier, expressed to me any concerns on this issue that were not supportive. 1 welcome all comments regarding any issues that influence the management of one of the best school systems in Virginia.
