Wednesday the team lost 23 to 3. Again hits were too few. Courtney Welch got two, a single and a double, Cari Kerr had two singles, and Kylene Wolfe added a single.
Against Strasburg on Friday hitting picked up, but the Panther squad went down 15 to 6. “That’s the only game we really hit the ball good this year,” Coach Payne said. Katy Paratore had a single; Courtney Welch had a double; Cari had four hits, three singles and a double; Kylene had three hits, a single, double and triple; Mandy Welch had a single, and Julie Atkins had two singles.
“It was a pretty good game. We made critical errors and walked 17 batters, but it wasn’t as bad as the score showed,” Coach Payne said.
Then Monday the team went down 16 to 15 to Luray. “We didn’t hit,” he said. Courtney Welch had a single; Cari had a double and single, Angie Atkins had a single, Kylene Wolfe had a double, Stacey Payne had a single.
“We left runners on base and didn’t hit well tonight,” Coach Payne said following the game. He was pleased with the defense that only made two errors and with his pitchers, Katy and Kylene. They gave up 25 walks, but “they were around the plate,” he said.
“I’m really proud of both of them. It’s just a matter of time. Both have gained confidence, and I have a lot more confidence in them. I’m pleased with wherp^we’ve come with our pitching.’
