Members of the Washington Town Council indicated they are willing to bend over backwards to allow the Senior Nutrition Site to move from Trinity Episcopal Church to the former Washington School owned by William Carrigan.
James Russell spoke for clients of the nutrition site at the council’s meeting last Wednesday. He spoke of the amazing physical feats seen on TV during the Olympics and noted the athletes had to qualify to be allowed to compete. “For senior citizens the requirements are as simple as can be,” he said. “You have to accumulate birthdays.”
He noted that there has been a search for a permanent site for the nutrition site for some time. With the parish hall at Trinity Episcopal Church used for the nutrition site the seniors have to be moved each fall to make room for arranging dried flowers for the churchwomen’s annual sale.
Another problem is that the building is not handicapped accessible and the bathrooms are not on the same floor that is used to serve meals. A further problem is that supplies have to be stored, and projects cannot be left out to be worked on over time.
