She is survived by four sons, Glenn H. Updike of Newsomes, Randall S. Updike of Washington, Lyle M. Updike of Kearney, Mo. and Francis Updike of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, Randall, Brian, Lee John, Kelly Lynn, Jennifer, Scott, Justin, Katie and Suzanne alnd one great-granddaughter, Hanna.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Updike and a son, John K. Updike.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 18 at Washington Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Bailey and Rev. Jennings W. Hobson, HI of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.
Interment followed in the Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Dorothy Harty
Dorothy Wood Harty, 74, of Boston, died on Saturday, Aug. 17, at her daughter’s residence.
She was bom April 12, 1922, in Washington D.C. to the late Sidney Archer and Edna Elizabeth Boger Wood.
She is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann B. Mead of Gainesville and two sons, David Michael Harty of Atlanta, Ga. and Richard Allen Harty of Charlottesville.
