A parent of one of the teenagers said, “Everybody is pretty much convinced that it was an accident, just a combination of inexperienced drivers and a very narrow road.”
Another parent said, “We have a lot of concerned parents, but also we are very thankful that the children are going to be okay.”
Trooper Woodard said that a charge of reckless driving is pending against the driver of the Toyota.
Another serious accident, which took place on Route 643 in Amissville at about 7:10 p.m. that same evening, left a 16 year-old boy with a broken spine. According to Trooper Woodard, the boy rode his 18-speed Huffy bicycle out of a private driveway and ran into the right front fender of a 1987 Volkswagen driven by John Franklin Ohlinger, 45, of Warrenton. The boy hit the windshield and was thrown to* the ground, breaking his spine and' bruising his brain. He was taken to1 Fauquier Hospital and then flown to Fairfax Hospital.
Trooper Woodard said that the doctor said he was surprised the boy was not paralyzed. The boy was released from the hospital and wentl home on Sunday. No charges were| placed in the accident.
