restore the parsonage. They decided that they would and are currently renting it out.
Two years later in 1993, the power was turned back on in the church and the restoration process began.
In order to get the money they needed to do this the members sent out letters to people in Flint Hill and Huntly as well as to the families of the congregation.
“Everybody responded really well,” another member, Mary Blaisdale, commented.
The congregation was especially pleased with one contribution that was sent in, a money order for $5. “That $5 did my heart more good than $100,” Mrs. Blaisdale said.
Mrs. Welch agreed “We’ve gotten many generous gifts, but one that really gets close to the heart is that one.”
Several of the donations were specifically for the windows. These double plated stain glass windows are said to be of Tiffany, a type of window which is no longer made.
However more was needed then just money. They also needed to select church officers. Jim Massie and William Lee were chosen as Deacons. The Board of Trustees, who are in charge of all legal matters, are Louis Moore Jr., Dorothy Ann Moore, Arland Welch and Robert E. Moore. Mrs. Blaisdale is also secretary and acting clerk. The church’s secretary is Mary Latham.
“We were sitting out there in front on the steps when we appointed that group of people,” Mrs. Blaisdale remembered.
The severely mildewed building had to be cleaned as well. This was done by four women. One of them, Mrs. Welch, described the scene as an “advertisement for Murphy’s oil soap.”
Then this May 19 the group opened their doors to a congregation of 175 people. That day is, according to Mrs. Blaisdale, Mrs. Welch, and her sister Garland Sealock, one of their fondest recent memories of the
