Jay Katzen has an old fashioned “shoe leather” approach to seeking the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor against opponents who will be better financed.
Katzen, a member of the House of Delegates, is criss-crossing the state in a 1984 Oldsmobile that already has more than 300,000 miles on it.
Though GOP opponents T. Coleman Andrews Jr. and John Hager have raised more money, Katzen’s strategy is to visit with as many prospective voters as possible prior to the June 1997 Republican primary election.
Though considered a longshot, Katzen’s chances were probably markedly improved with the party almost certain to nominate its statewide ticket next year by primary.
