After reviewing bids with consulting engineer John Orr, the members of the Water and Sewer Authority voted unanimously to award the contract for supplying the surge basin and related plumbing and electrical fixtures to the Vaden Company of Hampton for $57,624 providing the Health Department approves the design. .
They also agreed to see if it will be possible to have cross walks at both ends connecting the new tank with the current plant instead of a ladder that would require the plant operator to go up and down steps to get from the new tank to the rest of the plant.
The accepted bid was not the lowest, but it was the lowest that met all the requirements of the request for proposals. One of the lower bidders left out required engineering drawings. Another was not delivered to the place where the bids were opened.
At last Thursday’s meeting member Carson Johnson reported that the WSA had not yet received the $2,000 from John Shipman that he agreed to pay to keep the WSA from forcing a foreclosure on his property in Sperryville.
The WSA savings account has $28,100 remaining after a $15,000 withdrawal to pay the county for plant operators. Mr. Johnson explained that account had $60,000 after plant construction was finished. The money was the result of investing a loan the
