use water is turned off and the meter is still running, that would indicate a leak, he said.
She said the town water works could not afford to simply discount for leaks. “We do intend to be more accommodating than the big utility system, but we are accountable to the ones who gave us the grants and loans for the system. The water system has to pay for itself,” she said.
Ms. van Dort asked for approval to replace ,the town tractor and purchase a snow blade. The current tractor can no longer do what the town needs. The council voted unanimously to purchase the new tractor
The council also approved spending $105 for a new sign for the Town Hall and $1,100 to have a historical marker placed on U.S. 211 near the library similar to the one on Business. 211 coming into town from Sperryville.
Charles Eldred reported that the new street lights are being installed.
Member Ray Gooch thanked Mr. Eldred for his work in getting this done. “One person Stood up in a solitary position in favor of this historic fixture.”
Mr. Gooch said when he got to town last Friday night he noticed the difference right away and took a walk down Gay Street. “Charlie delivered on every promise he made to us. There is no pollution of the sky, the lighting is directed down. It is a very attractive fixture. We successfully persevered thanks to Charlie Eldred.”
Mr. Eldred thanked Mr. Gooch and s’aid it was also thanks to the council making the correct decisions as appropriate points and being willing to pay for the fixtures. “I am pleased with the appearance. They look like what we’ve always seen, so we tend to ignore them. That is the way it should be.”
