Bills Growing
At last Wednesday’s Town Council meeting treasurer Louise van Dort reported that there was a dramatic reduction between June and July in the difference between the amount of water pumped and the amount of water billed.
In June there were 221,866 more gallons pumped than billed, and in July that had been reduced to 131,478 even though more! gallons were pumped. She said that was the result of using a new billing system and replacing the water meters with new or rebuilt ones.
She said that several bills were significantly higher in July than in June and encouraged people to make sure they do not have leaks and have them repaired if they do.

VDOT Lets Contract
To Replace Bridge
A contract to replace the U.S. 211 westbound lane bridge over the Rappahannock River at the Culpeper and Fauquier County line was awarded on, Thursday, Aug. 15, by the Commonwealth Transportation Board at its meeting in Richmond.
Moore Bros. Inc. of Verona was awarded the $2.2 million contract to remove the existing bridge and replace it with a concrete structure similar to the one that now carries eastbound traffic over the Rappahannock River. Westbound U.S. 211 traffic will be detoured across the eastbound bridge during construction.
As part of the contract, the roadway approaches to the westbound lane bridge will be raised to Closely match the height of the existing eastbound bridge roadway approaches.
Construction is expected to begin in October and may take up to one year.
