Jackson District representative Ron Makela said this would be too great an inconvenience to some parents who leave the county to work before school opens and return after it closes or who don’t drive. He asked if parents could give the medicine to the school bus driver who would pass it to a school administrator.
Chairman John Tole said, “I believe some of Mr. Makela's concerns could be handled with guidelines once we accept the policy.” The board voted 3 to 1 to accept the new policy with Mr. Makela voting “No.”
When the board took up the Literacy Passport Test results, Dr. Gangel said, “I’m unhappy and concerned with the ‘96 scores.” He noted that the purpose of the tests is tb guarantee that those entering high school are prepared and that students can retake the tests until they pass.
