A 33-year-old Manassas woman lost her life in a motorcycle accident in Sperryville last Saturday afternoon.
Sophie Cummings was driving a 1995 Kawasaki on U.S. 211 in Sperryville, .8 mile west of Route 667, when she lost control on a curve, ran off the road to the left, struck a guardrail, overturned and was thrown from her bike, according to the accident report filed by State Trooper Wayne Sumner. She was wearing a helmet. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A serious one car accident on the afternoon of Dec. 27 sent a back seat passenger to the hospital With a broken back.
Melissa Pullen, 18, of Rixey ville, was driving > a 1996 2-door Ford on Route 729 in Amissville, . .3 mile north of Route 676, when she ran off the right side of the road and overturned. Her mother, 36-year-old Elizabeth Pullen, was riding in the passenger seat, and 20-year-old Jennifer Beacher was a passenger in the right rear seat. Ms. Beacher was thrown out the back window as a result of the accident. She was not wearing a seat belt. State Trooper M.C. Woodard, who is investigating the accident, said Ms. Beacher sustained a broken back and facial lacerations; she was transported by helicopter to Fairfax Hospital.
