Our two big fund raisers, the Relay For Life and the luncheon held in September, were enormously successful in 1996. Rappahannock County sent 11 teams to the Relay For Life and raised over $10,000 in that 24-hour period at Airlie. Now there may be some who think we are doing this in conjunction with another county. Not so, we are our own unit and the money we raise comes back to us to support other programs.

We are in the midst of launching two new programs coordinated by members of the board. One is skin cancer awareness (Carole Miller and Helen Brown are heading that), and the other is called "Me Too" and is a program for men concerning prostrate cancer. This will be coordinated by John Hartline who is finishing his own treatment for prostrate cancer.

Our old standbys, Breast Cancer Awareness and the Great American Smokeout are still with us. Ester Settle
