The Panther boys’ basketball teams gave their fans plenty of excitement at the Luray High School gym Friday night and again at home Tuesday.

The varsity came away with a win in overtime, at Luray while the JV lost. Then TUesday the JV defeated Strasburg at home while the varsity lost.

Rappahannock got the early lead in the varsity game at Luray and had a 19-13 margin at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers held onto the lead in the second quarter and were ahead 35-28 at half time.

Luray came out strong in the second half narrowing the margin and trailed only 55-53 at the end of the third quarter. Lura^ took its first lead since the start ol| play with 7:27 left in the fourth quarter, and no team had a decided margin after that. At the end of regulation time the score was tied 69-69. \ In^he four minute overtime, again thMead went back and forth. The Panthers led 77-75 with 20 seconds left, but Luray evened the score. Rappahannock won 79-77 in a nailbiting finale.

Jeff Atkins showed senior leadership throughout, making crucial layups and free throws.
