Although the only wins for the team so far this season have been in tournaments. Coach Conklin noted that "all the games have been close really." She said, "This is the strongest year we've ever had in volleyball. The girls are looking at a district title. We can do it if they keep their heads in it. If they slack off, they won't make it."
She noted that with only seven girls on the team each one is critical. "I need all seven of them. They all have a job to do and I depend on them.”
Katy Paratore and Fran Overdorf normally take on the role of setters. Courtney Mauro, Nancie Gallegos, Sarah Gentry, Angela Atkins and Kiersten Kerr are the hitters.
"Kiersten is the most improved," Coach Conklin said. "She only learned to play the game last year. She has an overhand serve she can depend on. She spikes and dives for balls."
Coach Conklin hopes the volleyball teams have finally found the formula for winning. The JV is having a very good year, and in the new fourmember Bull Run District, Rappahannock County seems to be the team to beat at the varsity level.
