The boys’ varsity basketball team was not the only RCHS team having a successful holiday tournament. The girls’ varsity volleyball team traveled to Madison County last Monday, Dec. 30, and came in second in an eightteam tournament, losing to William Monroe, a likely candidate for the state championship, according to volleyball Coach Laura Conklin.
The team faced William Monroe first and the girls were not yet ready to play, Coach Conklin said. They lost 15-9 and 15-8.
Then they faced Orange County and won 15-6 and 15-5. Next up was Bull Run District rival Brentsville. RCHS won 15-7 and 17-15. Coach Conklin said that was an "impressive win” because Katy Paratore became sick that game and Sarah Gentry and Courtney Mauro had to take on her job of setting the ball.
Finally the Panther squad faced William Monroe again. They lost the first game 15-5 but roared back and won the second 15-2. In the third and decisive game William Monroe prevailed 15-10.
