Trooper Woodard said that Elizabeth Pullen told him, days after the accident, that she had pulled up on the emergency brake while her daughter was driving, and that caused the accident. The original reason given for the accident was that the driver had swerved to avoid hitting a rabbit. Melissa Pullen was charged with reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt. Elizabeth Pullen was the only one wearing a seat belt; possible charges are pending against her. She and her daughter were treated at a hospital and released.

Following an early morning accident on Jan. 1 on Route 602 in Sperryville, .2 mile west of Route 707, Willie Nichols Jr., 36, of Boston, was charged with reckless driving. According to State Trooper M.J. Irvine's report, Mr. Nichols was driving a 1989 Eagle when he ran off the left side of the road, struck a tree and overturned. He and his passenger, Marvin Dodson, were injured and transported to a hospital. They were both wearing seat belts.
A Dec. 28 accident on U.S. 211, .1 mile east of Route 667, involved a 17-old Sperryville male driver who was driving a Pontiac eastbound. He ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned. He was not injured. State Trooper S.M. Knick charged him with reckless driving.
