Del. Katzen said it will not be easy for him to get additional funds from a legislature controlled by the other party, but he believes he can get some h&lp for the county’s school children. < He asked Dr. Gangel and Mrs. Johanson to support his bill to study the fggrnula used to determine each locality?&bility to pay for education. He said the bill was quickly killed in the last session, but he intends to introduce it again. He said the commission he worked with on funding had 15 suggestions for ways the formula could be altered to more accurately reflect the true wealth of a locality, but his suggestion did not get serious consideration.
Sheriff Gary Settle asked about a proposal to require drug testing for jail inmates. Del. Katzen said he did not know if that would be applied to jails as small as Rappahannock's. Sheriff Settle said he was concerned that the cost of such testing not be pushed off onto the county.
Hunt Harris told Del. Katzen there would be a clean up effort this spring in the Nethers area similar to .the one at Chester Gap last spring. He said he would also be conducting a series of hikes in the headwaters of each tributary of the Rappahannock River the second Saturday of each month starting with White Oak Canyon in January.
