Philip Sloat Sr.
Philip "Riley" Sloat, Sr., 80, of Front Royal died Friday, Dec. 27 in The Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va. ■ j
Mr. Sloat was a native of Fauquier County and the widower of Rose Marie Sloat.
He was retired from G & M Motors of Front Royal where he served as an automobile mechanic for many years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Sloat is survived by two sons, Philip Riley Sloat Jr. of Rileyville and Charles Channing Sloat of Front Royal; a daughter, Jane Sloat Williams of Chester Gap; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 31 at The Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal with the Rev. James Burke officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.
Mattie Turner
Mattie Sunday Turner, age 73, of Washington, D.C. died Thursday, Dec. 26 in the D.C. General Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Graveside services were held in the Macedonia Cemetery at Flint Hill on Friday, Jan. 3 with the Rev. John Pendleton officiating.
Mrs. Turner was bom June 13, 1923, in Flint Hill, the daughter of the late Frank and Cora Underwood Jordan.
She was the wife of the late Hedgeman R. Turner, Sr.
Mrs> Turner was a senior companion for the D.C. Village Center in Washington, D.C.
Surviving are one son, Hedgeman R. Turner, Jr. of Front Royal, Va.; one twin-sister, Mamie Monday Roy of Front Royal and one granddaughter.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal.
