hogs and goats, but most sales for Rappahannock farmers will probably be for cattle, said Mr. Mathews. Graded fat cattle sales will be held the first and third Thursdays of the month. The first special feeder calf sale will be held on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. Horse sales will be held on the first Saturday each month, and auction sale days for all types of livestock will be every Thursday.
TTjp/ are also planning a tack sale at 10:30 a.m. and Jjofse sale at 1 p.m. ihis Saturday. A machinery consignment sale is scheduled for March 15 at 10 a.m.
The three owner/operators have 80 years of service between them in the cattle industry and are very knowledgeable about livestock marketing. They all also operate farms themselves.
Herdsman K.P. Grigsby of Manor Farm in Washington, owned by Monira Rifaat, said there couldn’t be nicer people running Virginia Livestock. “Rick is a super guy,” he added. At Manor Farm he raises Angus and Angus/Simmental crosses. He has been in cattle farming all his life and is a native of Rappahannock County.
Mr. Mathews said he feels they have a good reputation with the livestock buyers. Also, he said, the cattle market is better than it has been in the last two years. “That is good for all of us,” he said.
