The Rappahannock Athletic Association has over 200 area children in their program ranging in age from 5 to 18 and 20 different teams. The games are held at Stuart’s Field in Amissville and the RAA is adding three new batting cages and three new pitching areas to enable children to practice more and therefore be able to play more games.
Teams in other counties play more regular season games because they have a place to practice and play at the same time. The new improvements will now let RAA teams enjoy that luxury.
The RAA has games on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday in the daytime. Their 10 week season starts April 26 and the last day of the season is June 28, when they also have a picnic.
Also new this year to the fields is a playground area with equipment for kids and a picnic area where families can gather. Many parents had nowhere for younger children to play and no way to keep them occupied while the older ones were playing on their teams and the RAA feels that hurt participation. So they are hoping the improvements will encourage more families to let their kids participate on the teams and give the families an opportunity to come enjoy the area along with them.
The RAA can always use donations of equipment or funds. These funds are put to good use for the kids and are greatly appreciated.
