favorite. One thrilling picture is of a Black-throated Blue Warbler in a watery setting, apparently having that instant alighted. The immaculate patterning of the Wood Duck makes Mr. Trott’s most dramatic image.
There are four pictures of Sawwhet Owls, some of the smallest of that family. John Trott’s photographs make the most of the subtle colors in nature, from the white tangle of weathered deer antlers where he caught a House Wren in Oregon to the Great Egret found at Sanibel Island in Florida with its bill’s green top at its base. There is a sense of the Fitting and a surprise, aspects of the healing quality of nature undisturbed.
