competition, elementary and high school. The Lions feel judging elementary and high school students at the same level is not fair to the participants. Although, if the elementary level contestants are more advanced they may be chosen to advance to divisional competition.
That is the case this year, as it was last year. Both Mr. Forrester and Miss Lucas are elementary level contestants who have been chosen to continue to the divisional competition, which will be held in April in Warrenton at the Junior High School.
All participants in the competition were awarded a certificate of participation. The first, second and third place winners in each category were awarded a check for $50, $35, and $25, respectively.
The funds for prizes awarded the contestants come from the Lions themselves, Mr. Scott said, and not from funds raised by the Lions for public use.
Winners for this year were: Senior vocal, first — Margo Haynes; Senior instrumental, first — James Kelly, second — Jami Gillis; Elementary vocal, first — Rachel Lucas, second — Jennifer Starr, third ->— Robin Oyster; Elementary instrumental, first — Dale Forrester, second — Wendy Gillis, and third — Ben Kelly.
Judges for this year’s contest were Emma Sue Amos, Leslie Nichols, Melody Hackney and Charlotte Nichols.
