McNear said. “We haven’t invested a whole lot of money (in the horses). We have no investment in the facilities. The barns were already on the property,” added McNear.
The McNears’ business started out small, but with b-ig horses. Their halfThoroughbred/half-draft
(Percheron, Clydesdale, or Irish Draft) mares were bred last year to a pure Thoroughbred stallion. The foals, which are expected in April, will be threequarter Thoroughbred field hunters. Based on their projected size and structure, they should be able to carry heavier weights and have more endurance than most lighter horses would. The draft blood should make them more tractable and sensible in the field.
