The house that burned down
on my property last week was not just any house. It was a special house. We had made the bricks ourselves from the earth on which it stood. And then, with the bricks that we had made, using the design of the family that would live in it, we built the house.
“We” refers to our “intentional community” — about 20 to 25 adults and children striving to bring the smallest gestures of our lives into conformity with our large ideals. Thus the conventional white lies and little courteous liypocrisies of normal intercourse gave way to an attempt at moment by moment honesty framed by what we hoped was love.
