number of years as tie breaker for the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors. He additionally enjoyed motorcycling, flying, horse racing, apple orchards and farming.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Thornton Fletcher. His survivors include his five children, Mildred Fletcher Slater of Upperville, Va., Catherine Meade Fletcher, of Coles Point, Va., Louise Fletcher Tayloe of Charlottesville, Va,. James William Fletcher III, of Sperryville,Va., and Stuart Fletcher Trope, of Richmond, Va., and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers named are the honorable Rayner V. Snead, James P. Jamieson, Larry L. LeHew, J. Newbill Miller, Dennis I. Belcher, and William Richard Settle. Honorary pallbearers are Lynn J. Atkins, John DeBergh, Robert H. Haskell III, Richard Lee Settle, Thomas Cross, and D. Brooke Miller.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 1998, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery, Woodville, Va.
