For seven years we supported ourselves by running for our own children, and for up to 10 boarding students, a Summerhillian type school — a school where the students were allowed to control their own time. This meant that classes were voluntary. At one time the county threatened to sue us for non-compliance with the compulsory education laws. Our lawyer successfully advanced our contention that “everything that happens here is school.”
