The greenhouse is used to store hanging baskets, without which “the wind will beat them to death,” he explains. As he expands, their plans are to add another greenhouse.
Smoot said, “if I don’t have a tree or shrub that somebody wants, I can have it within three days. We’re still seeing what people want. The more people that stop by, we find out what we need to get. It saves them from running to Front Royal, Culpeper, and Warrenton, when we have it here. I’d like people to give me their opinion (about the nursery) and what they want. There’s a demand (for the nursery), but if people don’t tell you what they want, you’re not going to meet that demand.”
He gets his merchandise from various places. In particular, he said, “Henry Eastwood has helped me out a lot. He carries some of the best maples.” Eastwood’s is located on Long Mountain Road. Another good outlet for Smoot has been the Long Mountain Nursery.
Smoot plans on offering fruits, vegetables, and farmfresh produce from local growers as well.
